A proud moment for LDCA members John and Christine Meiklem was the opening of their new premises by the Prime Minister Gordon Brown recently.
The Rt. Hon. Gordon Brown MP. Prime Minister, officially opened the new purpose built premises of Meiklem Drainage Ltd, which is situated in Kelty Industrial Park, Kelty, with excellent access to the M90 motorway, on 20th August 2009.

John Meiklem Drainage Contractors Limited was formed in 1982 recognised widely now as Meiklem Drainage and Groundworks, one of the leading names in the field of drainage, site preparation, groundworks and hardlandscaping with a proven track record stretching back over twenty-five years.
The Company has carried out the groundworks for St Elizabeth’s, Glenlee and St Cuthbert’s Primary Schools in the Hamilton area. Recently groundworks packages have been completed at various prisons, namely Castle Huntley, Cornton Vale, Saughton, Polmont and currently Perth.
The Company was one of the first contractors on site at the new Queen Margaret University College, near Musselburgh in November 2005 and one of the last off site on September 2007 having completed an earthworks, groundworks, drainage and hard landscaping package valued at over £3.0m.
Meiklem has also recently installed the drainage at the Kingsbarns and Castle Golf Courses, St Andrews, Nairn Dunbar, Duff House Royal GC in Banff and more recently the drainage for the G West Golf Course at Blackford, near Gleneagles.

The Company employs over 40 people from the locality of Kelty and Kinross with many men having over fifteen years service and seven with over twenty-five years service to the Company. They also give employment to the local contractors and suppliers.
Employees are all ‘carded’ with, either CSCS/CPCS cards the majority of which have been obtained through grandfather rights, on-site assessment and NVQ’s. The company holds the “Certificate of Commitment – Gold Standard” for the Construction Skills Certification Scheme.
The Company carries its own plant fleet consisting of tracked and wheeled excavators, JCB 3c type machine, dumpers, rollers, sports field equipment and various small plant. They are members of CECA, CITB, Constructionline, SPOA and of course the Land Drainage Contractors Association.
The Company is trackside sponsors of Kelty Hearts and Dunfermline Athletic Football Club and hold a ‘Corporate Box’ at East End Park.

Meiklem Contractors have been LDCA members since the Association was founded 25 years ago and John and Christine regularly attend LDCA meetings and AGMs. On behalf of all their fellow members the Association congratulates them on the completion of their new premises and opening them in such style!
